If you were eating a lot more than 1200 calories and now you would start eating less, then yes, it would work. I never recommend actually counting how many calories you are eating. No one should make losing weight feel like hard work or torture. It should be more like something you are doing on the side and not thinking too much about, because next thing you know it you will be sitting at home looking at the clock and counting how much time is left until you lose a pound.
